What is Church Consultation?

For Celtic Hound Ministries (CHM), consultation is a form of spiritual life coaching, known classically as spiritual direction.

Spiritual direction is the process of accompanying people on a spiritual journey.

Spiritual direction helps people be attentive and abiding to God in their everyday life.

Spiritual direction exists in a context that emphasizes growing closer to the communion of the Triune God.

What is a CHM Church Consultant like?

Our consultants are spiritual life coaches / directors, schooled in their particular specialties, with a missional focus. A spiritual life coach is experienced in helping you sort through ideas and feelings about the spiritual path God is calling you to follow.

In sessions with your consultant, or spiritual life coach, you get to step back regularly, look at your life from a spiritual and missional perspective and focus your intention for the days ahead with God in the center of the discussion and actions.

Who can benefit from this?

All who want to place more attention on their spiritual and mission life, as well as their continual Christian formation, choose to have regular sessions with an experienced CHM spiritual life coach.

A monthly talk with a spiritual life coach is also a time to relax and rejuvenate. At its best, a session is an experience of soul healing and empowerment to participate in God's mission in the world.

How much does it cost?

Following the practice in a number of spiritual traditions, Celtic Hound Ministries is supported by financial gifts that can be made by anyone who know of its work.
Each formal consultation is unique and will be custom built around the needs of the group or individual.

Who would serve as my coach?

After your initial contact, based on geography, demand, and your particular need,
an associate with Celtic Hound Ministries will be assigned  and will arrange with you a meeting.

The primary spiritual life coach and consultant is Christian Boyd,
who is the founder of Celtic Hound Ministries.

Christian is an ordained Presbyterian Minister of Word & Sacrament,
an experienced pastor, spiritual director, and a Benedictine oblate,
ministering as a servant leader  in Christ’s Church for over 10 years.  Christian grew up in southern Missouri and is a graduate of Truman State University in Kirksville, MO.  He earned a Master of Divinity from Louisville Seminary, and currently is a doctoral student at Luther Seminary (St Paul, MN), specializing in Congregational Mission and Leadership. For more info on Christian, click here.
Why Celtic Hound? What does the symbols on your logo mean?

The name of our ministry comes from the recognition of our Celtic Christian heritage as well as the symbol of the hound in Celtic Christian poetry and art (i.e. the poem, "The Hound of Heaven" by Francis Thompson, and the knotwork hound in the Book of Kells).

The base of the design is the coat of arms of the Boyd family, who aided in the reformation of the Church of Scotland.

The Cross Celtic is one of the most ancient of cruciforms; this cross was used by the Celtic Christians in Great Britain and Ireland. Symbolizes the unity of heaven and earth.

The celtic styled greyhound represent  the time of famine during the Middle Ages when the Greyhound almost became extinct. The celtic monastics and clergy saved them from starvation and bred them. In this way, the greyhound represents the Gospel and the preservation of the faith. The Greyhound is said to denote majesty, courage, vigilance, swiftness and loyalty, and are emblematic of nobility.
